The Hotel Dom Manuel I belongs to the Alif Hoteis Group, which also owns the Hotel Alif in Lisbon. Along its 12 floors, the guest will be able to choose between 64 rooms (8 per floor) decorated in a similar, sophisticated way with the only difference of the view. The ones facing the front door, overlooking Duque D`Avila Avenue, are a bit smaller than the ones at the back; however, they all feature the same basic furniture and accommodations.
Single or double rooms: the 64 guestrooms at this four-star hotel seem to a have a bond that links them directly to the general style of the lodging: dark wood adds its unique charm to the generally soft shades of the walls, the linen and the carpets. A headboard made of this material found all over the inn goes from one end to the room to the other, bringing the bed and the side tables into a singular item. Lamps in amber or cream hues set the space into a friendly atmosphere, while matching pictures hang from the wall behind the bed. |
A wardrobe in beautifully carved wood is placed right besides the desk, where you will also find flowers, a tv set and a mirror for a last look before setting out to tour around Lisbon. Behind grey curtains, with blackout drapes, a big window (that may either face the front or back of the hotel), lets air flow freely around the spacious room. At the double rooms it is possible to add an extra cot for kids, though this service is charged afterwards. Air conditioning is available in every room, as well as connection to the internet if you are carrying your personal computer with you.
As far as the bathrooms are concerned, you will find every facility a four-star hotel provides: a marble washbasin is ideally combined with finely decorated azulejos that match the brimming of the mirror right on top of it. This is a detail that has to do with another relevant style in Lisbon, left by the muslims during their stay in the country between the year 711 and the 16th century. |
Immaculate white goes perfectly with glazed tiles in stripes of black, aquamarine and apricot, and fluffy towels with the logo of the Hotel Dom Manuel I hang from right beside the washbasin. In addition to this, the toilets are equipped with bath and shower, hair dryer and bidet. Presentation and first impressions are two concerns that the hotel`s staff takes into consideration. As you enter your room, either on your arrival to Lisbon or after a tiring day visiting its amazing attractions, you will be delighted with a silver tray placed on the desk: a little basket with soaps and other self care articles, delicately tied up in plastic with a golden ribbon, is set along with a bottle of mineral water. Such a welcome will enable you to recover your energies, either with a drink or a relaxing bath, and get you ready to enjoy the night life of Portugal`s capital city. Other amenities guaranteed in the guestrooms are a direct-dial telephone, extra towels and bedding, a safe, and a refrigerator; and smoking rooms are available. |
